【Course Purpose and Description】 |
This course is designed for people with an elementary-level and an early intermediate background in Japanese. The goal for this semester is to provide the dynamic nature of Japanese culture and society. Through the course, students will incorporate their experience and awareness of and knowledge about Japanese culture and their own culture. This course is conducted in Japanese. |
【Learning Objectives】 |
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1) to explore Japanese culture. 2) to obtain a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society. 3) to understand Japanese culture and society in depth from comparative point of view. |

【Instructional Methods】 |
This is a non-face-to-face (media) class that combines distance learning (simultaneous interactive classes) and assignment delivery learning (on-demand classes). Class materials and lectures will be distributed using ToyoNet-Ace, Webex Meetings, YouTube, and Google, as well as PDF files, Word files, and PowerPoint files, so a terminal and Internet environment compatible with these files are required. Questions and answers will be posted via ToyoNet- Ace or Google form, but please post under your real name. Also, when using Webex Meetings, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas in real time. |
【Self-study before/after classes】 |
Self-study before/after classes Be sure to utilize ToyoNet-ACE and read the lecture materials beforehand for advance learning. In addition, when you participate in a discussion, be sure to summarize your thoughts beforehand and mull over other students' opinions, indications, etc. afterward to deepen your thought. The second half of the time required is 30 minutes or more for pre-study and 30 minutes or more for post-study. |
【Methods of Evaluation and Grading Criteria】 |
Participation: 30% Tasks: 40% (HW including writing reflection papers and creating your own guidebook of Japan) Final Exam: 30% Grading conforms to Toyo university's grading standard. |
【Pre-requisites】 |
This class is designed for those students who will acquire intermediate-level Japanese ability after finishing elementary-level studies. |
