Clarify your research question

【Course Purpose and Description】

The process of reading and understanding previous study is essential for any thesis, not just a master's thesis. Therefore, in this course, we will take up about five papers that are close to the interests of the students and discuss the papers together.

【Learning Objectives】

The goal of this lecture is to help students clarify their research questions and the positioning of their own research.

【Schedule】

We will read one paper in two weeks

Week 2: Presentation of research plan
Week 3: Reading of papers (1st paper)
Week 4: Reading of papers (1st paper)
Week 5: Reading of papers (2nd paper)
Week 6: Reading of papers (2nd paper)
Week 7: Presentation of progress
Week 8: Reading of papers (3rd paper)
Week 9: Reading of papers (3rd paper)
Week 10: Reading of papers (4th paper)
Week 11: Reading of papers (4th paper)
Week 12: Presentation of progress
Week 13: Reading of papers (5th paper)
Week 14: Reading of papers (5th paper)
Week 15: Presentation of survey results

【Instructional Methods】

This course will be given in a circular reading style. Participants will prepare their resumes in PDF or PowerPoint format and post them on ToyoNet-Ace. For non-face-to-face participants, we will use WebexMeetings or Zoom, so you will need a device that supports these and an internet connection.

【Self-study before/after classes】

Before each lecture, students read the papers and organize issues that can be assumed from the perspective of your practice and activities. After each lecture, students consider how to apply what you have learned in the lecture to your work and activities. Allocate 30 to 60 minutes each for preparation and review. Working graduate students are encouraged to use your actual work and activities to prepare and review.

【Methods of Evaluation and Grading Criteria】

Your grade is determined by contents of presentation (60%) and participation in discussions (40%) according to Toyo University's grade evaluation standards.

【Pre-requisites】

It is recommended that you have knowledge of undergraduate-level microeconomics, or have taken or already earned the credit of "Basic economics".
