【Course Purpose and Description】 |
This course is designed for students with intermediate level background in Japanese (TJ3-TJ4). The aim of this class is that you will understand yourself, classmates and others in Japanese. You gather information through means such as interview and photography, analyze it, and convey it through written essays and oral presentations. When necessary you may need to learn a limited number of new expressions, but primarily you should work creatively using the expressions you have previously studied. |
【Learning Objectives】 |
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1) to explore Japanese culture. 2) to obtain a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society. 3) to understand Japanese culture and society in depth from comparative point of view. |

【Instructional Methods】 |
Japanese language is used for the instruction of this course. Students are expected to utilize their four skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading) to accomplish all projects.
This class is a combination of face-to-face and non-face-to-face classes. When non-face-to-face classes are conducted, a combination of distance learning (simultaneous bidirectional class) and assignment delivery learning (on-demand class) is conducted. Distribution of lesson materials and lectures will be conducted using ToyoNet-Ace, Webex Meetings, YouTube, Google, PDF files, Word files, and PowerPoint files. Questions and answers will be held at ToyoNet-Ace and Webex Teams, and real-time discussions will be held at Webex Meetings. |
【Self-study before/after classes】 |
Before class, students are expected to have some ideas of each project. (approx.30 min) After class, students are expected to: 1) collect information they need 2) prepare for the next task (approx.1 hour) Homework is submitted to the following class day. |

Achievement of the projects: 50% Attendance & Class performance: 50% |
