Asian Economy

【Course Purpose and Description】

This course deals with the development challenges that Asian economies are facing. Challenges in the financial sector will be a focus theme in the spring semester in 2021 academic year. Participating students are expected to become familiar with the current status and key challenges that developing countries in Asia need to address to sustain their economic development.

【Learning Objectives】

Students are expected to deepen thir understanding about current development issues in developing Asia.

【Instructional Methods】

An appointed student will make a short presentation on the assigned topics in class and the class will discuss the topics based on the presentation. Relevant reading materials are provided by the lecturer to promote the students' understanding on the updated issues on development challenges in developing Asia.

【Self-study before/after classes】

An appointed student is expected to deliver a presentation on the assigned topic in class in power point presentation.

【Methods of Evaluation and Grading Criteria】

Grades are evaluated based on (i) attendance and quality of outputs of assignments/presentations during the course (65%) and (ii) the final report(35%).

【Pre-requisites】

As this is an introductory course, there are no requirements for entry to the course.

【Textbooks】

No single textbook is used.

【Reference Materials】

Under the stay-home situation, participating students can access all reading materials as these will be uploaded at Toyo-Ace or downloadable from publushers' homepages.

【Related Study Fields and Courses】

【Notes】

In case there are no foreign students who prefer having the course in English, the course may be conducted in Japanese language. However, some presentation and reading materials may be in English.
